THE OSPREY : Major Mark Terhune
| Major Terhune has had a long and colorful career as a super powered crime fighter. He was born in a remote part of Montana, and grew up on his grandfather's ranch. His wings grew in when he hit puberty, and while the vast wilderness of his home state and some very understanding people in his home community ensured a relatively quiet childhood, word of this unusual flying boy eventually got out, and national attention was visited upon him just about the time he reached college age. He went to school in California, but dropped out shortly afterward, becoming a wanted man when he refused to be drafted by The Olympus Project. He soon became a fixture in the counter culture movement, eventually falling in with the San Diego Seven, a team of young, rebellious super powered activists who clashed frequently with The Crusaders and the F.B.I. He left the group in 1974, troubled by it's descent into increasing violence. Shortly therafter he turned himself in, serving his time out by special arrangement with The Olympus Project as a trainer and counselor. While not operating in any official capacity, he was a key player in the Vigilantes conflict of 1989. When B.A.S.E. was formed, he became one of it's first operatives, and has risen rapidly through the ranks. He's currently filling the chair usually occupied by Matter Man as Bureau Chief in Seattle, while Secretary Landers serves in Washington. Major Terhune's daughter, Skye Terhune (a.k.a. The Peregrin) has inherited many of his powers, and currently serves as an officer in the South West office in Los Angeles. |
